The Institute for Molecular Science (ICMol) held the sixth edition of its Summer Campus from 15 to 17 July 2026, an initiative aimed at students interested in gaining first-hand insight into research in molecular and materials science.

Over three days, participants attended talks given by ICMol researchers, learned about the institute’s main research areas, and visited its facilities and laboratories. The programme combined introductory sessions with hands-on experiences, offering a direct view of everyday life in scientific research.

The talks covered topics such as molecular spin science and technology, two-dimensional materials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), biomolecular materials, sustainability and the environment, electronics, and materials for energy.

The laboratory visits introduced participants to specialised equipment and facilities, including computing and microscopy rooms, magnetic measurement systems, synthesis and spectroscopy laboratories, X-ray diffraction facilities, clean rooms, and laboratories devoted to electrochemistry, batteries, optoelectronics, and the growth of 2D materials. Attendees were divided into groups and rotated through the different spaces.

On Friday, there was also a discussion session on working in research and pursuing a scientific career, giving students the opportunity to ask questions and share their concerns. The programme concluded with lunch and an informal meeting with researchers and PhD students.

In the afternoons, the Open Labs initiative encouraged direct contact with researchers and PhD students, who were available in their offices and laboratories to provide further explanations and answer questions.

Taking part in the Summer Campus also offered a gateway to ICMol, as it gave students the chance to explore opportunities to carry out their Bachelor’s Thesis, undertake an external internship, or enrol in one of the master’s programmes linked to the institute.

The activities took place at ICMol, located at the University of Valencia Science Park, on the Burjassot-Paterna Campus.
