The MUPOMAT group at the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) of the Universitat de València, led by Emilio José Pardo Marín and Jesús Ferrando Soria, is participating in AIDA, a research project aimed at developing new technologies to detect, monitor and remove PFAS from drinking and reclaimed water. The initiative will combine advanced sensors, preconcentration systems and predictive digital tools to improve the monitoring of these contaminants.
PFAS, known as per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a family of chemical compounds characterised by their high persistence in the environment. Their presence in water poses significant challenges for detection, monitoring and removal.
The AIDA project will investigate integrated technologies to improve the control of these contaminants in drinking and reclaimed water by combining different detection and analysis tools.
The planned technologies include preconcentration systems and advanced sensors, together with a predictive digital platform that will make it possible to establish relationships between the presence of PFAS and other emerging contaminants.
This combination aims to improve water quality monitoring and help anticipate potential environmental and health risks.
The project involves the ICMol MUPOMAT group, co-led by Emilio José Pardo Marín and Jesús Ferrando Soria, which specialises in coordination chemistry and multifunctional materials, including the development of porous metal-organic frameworks and their environmental applications.
The consortium comprises the Universitat de València, Nealis Digital Technologies, Sociedad de Fomento Agrícola Castellonense (FACSA), ITENE and Advanced Wave Sensors.
The project is part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Programme for the Valencian Community 2021–2027, with the institutional participation of IVACE+i and funding from the European Union.
