Sourav Dey has been awarded a prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research Fellowship. This young researcher will develop his project in the 2D Smart Materials Lab of Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) of the University of Valencia under the supervision of José J. Baldoví.
Sourav joined ICMol in January 2023 after obtaining his PhD in Chemistry with honours at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, supervised by Professor Gopalan Rajaraman.
In his Marie Curie project he will study the interaction between spin and phonons in molecular nanomagnets deposited in the surface of 2D magnetic materials. In particular, he will develop a fully ab initio strategy that will allow to create new multifunctional materials with an enhanced performance in spintronics and quantum technologies. The predictions of the project will be tested experimentally in collaboration with experimental groups.

Now, this represents a huge milestone in my career that will develop my skills in project management and international visibility”, he says.
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions fund excellent research and innovation and equip researchers at all stages of their career with new knowledge and skills, through mobility across borders and exposure to different sectors and disciplines.
It supports excellent researchers and foster excellence in research and innovation collaborations, knowledge transfer, methodologies and content, as well as in training, supervision and career guidance.
It is a highly competitive programme for which 6.339 proposals were submitted this year in all categories, with an overall budget of €919 million.
In the area of Chemistry, in which Sourav Dey has been nominated, 920 candidates were registered, with a success rate in this discipline of 17.28%.
Founded in 2000, ICMol develops a competitive and high-quality research in materials science using a molecular approach. In fact, ICMol is the sole research center in Spain exclusively focused on the Molecular Aspects os Nanoscience. Since 2015 the Institute of Molecular Science has been recognized by Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation as a Unit of Excellence María de Maeztu.
