We are pleased to announce that Javier Carmona García, PhD graduate from the Universitat de València and researcher affiliated with the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol), has been awarded the 9th Prize for Best Doctoral Thesis in Photochemistry by the Specialized Group on Photochemistry (GRUFO) of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry.
His thesis, titled “Atmospheric chemistry of mercury and sulfur induced by sunlight: Quantum-chemical modelling and environmental implications”, was supervised by Prof. Daniel Roca Sanjuán (ICMol - Universitat de València) and Prof. Alfonso Saiz López (CSIC). The work stands out for its quantum-chemical modelling of sunlight-induced atmospheric processes, with key implications for understanding the behavior of mercury and sulfur in the atmosphere.
The jury highlighted the relevance of the topic, the quality of the resulting scientific publications, participation in conferences, and other outstanding achievements during his doctoral studies.
At ICMol, we warmly congratulate Javier for this well-deserved recognition, which underscores the excellence of research in the fields of theoretical chemistry and environmental photochemistry.
