Professor Isabel Castro was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1963. She obtained her PhD from the Universitat de València in 1991 under the supervision of Professors Miguel Julve and Juan Faus. After two years of postdoctoral research at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, she returned to the Universitat de València, where she is currently Full Professor of Inorganic Chemistry.
Her research focuses on the design and development of multifunctional molecular magnetic materials within the Coordination Chemistry Team at the Molecular Science Institute (ICMol). Her scientific interests also include coordination compounds with potential biomedical applications. In collaboration with Assistant Professor José Martínez-Lillo, she has led several research projects in this field, exploring the design and development of molecular systems with biomedical relevance.
Professor Castro has led several research projects employing X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) at major international facilities, including the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble and the ALBA Synchrotron in Barcelona.
Her group maintains strong collaborations with leading national and international groups in molecular magnetism. It has participated in major European initiatives, including the QueMolNa Research Training Network and the MAGMANet Network of Excellence, coordinated by Professor Dante Gatteschi, establishing long-standing collaborations with prominent European researchers in molecular magnetism and coordination chemistry.
