ACS Energy's "Women Scientists at the Forefront of Energy Research" highlights 25 women scientists in the field of energy research, two of whom are part of the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) at the University of Valencia. These women are recognized for their significant contributions and exceptional careers. Julia Perez Prieto, Professor and leader of the Photochemistry Reactivity Group at ICMol, shares her reflections on her commitment to energy research and her role in leading the group. Raquel Galian, scientific researcher in the same group, reflects on her motivation in energy research and highlights the urgency of addressing global energy challenges.

In her early research experiences, Julia Perez highlights the complexity and excitement of doing science, especially seeing motivated young researchers, mainly women. Taking on the role of senior researcher, she appreciates the responsibility of training new scientists and has led research in diverse fields, from nanoparticles to  nanomedicine.

Raquel Galian, focusing on organic chemistry and materials science, has explored quantum dots and nanocrystals, leading the preparation of hybrid perovskite nanocrystals. Her current focus is on nanomaterials for light harvesting applications, such as photocatalysis, contributing to clean energy solutions. In addition, she is dedicated to science outreach, inspiring young people to learn about luminescent materials.

Both scientists, Julia and Raquel, reflect how research has transformed them, making them more complete scientists and open to new opportunities. Their work and dedication highlight the crucial role of women at the forefront of scientific research, especially in the field of energy.
