QCEXVAL (Quantum Chemistry of the Excited State, University of Valencia) is one of the research groups of the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMOL) at the University of Valencia (Spain), led by Dr. Daniel Roca-Sanjuán since 2017. Dr. Roca-Sanjuán is currently a Spanish Ramón y Cajal tenure-track researcher, awarded in 2018 with the Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physiscs Promising Scientist Prize by the International Society Centre de Mécanique Ondulatoire Appliquée. The current research lines of the group focus on the innovative fusion of the Computational Photochemistry and Theoretical Chemiluminescense fields brought by Dr. Roca-Sanjuán applied to Molecules of Interest in Biology, Medicine, Nanotechnology and Atmospheric Chemistry.
QCEXVAL group was founded in 1993 within the Theoretical Chemistry Research Unit of the Department of Physical Chemistry of the University of Valencia, when several Ph. D. Theses on theoretical spectroscopy began under the supervision of Dr. Manuela Merchán (MM). During the period 2002-2010, Dr. Luis Serrano-Andrés (LSA) was also leading the QCEXVAL group. Both were awarded by the Spanish Royal Chemical Society: in 2001 (LSA) and 2007 (MM). The scientific expertise of the group was initially focused on the theoretical study of spectroscopy and photo-induced properties of excited electronic states of molecular systems, with particular interest on those molecules with biological interest. In 2013, Dr. Daniel Roca-Sanjuán became the coordinator of the group and also co-leader together with Dr. Merchán. Since 2017, he is the single group leader.
